  1. Wow! Your trip looks amazing! What size is your bike? I have a 50 cc Honda Scooter and I have always wanted to do a trip like this. Would it even be possible for a bike like mine to make it? I just finished reading THE LONG TRIP HOME by Nathan Millward about his trip from Sydney, Australia to London, England on a 105cc Australian Post Bike. Good luck with your journey.

  2. Hi Lauren - My bike is 150cc. It has 16 inch wheels and disk brakes. It will cruise at 55 mph, but I rarely drive above 40. You can do a cross country tour on a 50cc scooter, but you have to plan like a bicyclist. Your speed will be slow, every other vehicle will pass you. You cannot drive on many highways and must plan your route carefully. The best running bikes still need maintainance, brush up on your mechanical skills.

That said, trailer your scooter to one end of the Blue Ridge Parkway and ride it up and down. It will be an unforgetable experience. All the best. - John

    1. Thanks John. I'll have to get a trailer someday.
My husband has a friend in his mid 60s who flys to LA every year and then bicycles back. Takes 30 days and does 100 miles a day. Maybe I'll get his route and see about scootering to Cali. I know what you mean about money being an issue...we've got 3 kids in college right now. :(
