Post 017 - Last Day On BRP

Sunday morning, rose early to perfect stillness. Light gray overcast, no wind. It will be my last day on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The town of Cherokee is only about 70 miles away.

Drove further up mountain before breakfast to take photos. Heavy dark clouds roll in, rain begins to fall. I make it to the Mt. Pisgah hotel & restaurant before it begins to pour. Beautiful view, mediocre food.

Go back to camp and break it down. Dress for cold rain. I will be traveling above 5,000 feet for most of the ride. The rain passes, but not the clouds and cool temperatures. I stop at the high point sign for a photo op.

Roll in to Cherokee. It's bittersweet to finish the Parkway. It is such a beautiful road. This will be a motel stop for laundry and recharging. The Pink Motel beckons. They have sunken bathtubs (for no known reason) and a back door that opens on the river. Pete's Pancake House is next door.
